Washington-Specific Insurance Considerations

Washington Banquet Permits (WSLCB)
For private events (weddings, company banquets, retirement parties) where alcohol is served but NOT sold, Washington requires a Banquet Permit from the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB). Banquet permits cost $25 per day and are available online through the LCB Portal. Attendance must be invitation-only, the event cannot be advertised to the public, and alcohol must be free (no separate charge, no donations). When you buy the permit online, a copy is sent to your local liquor enforcement office. If you’re serving alcohol without selling it, host liquor liability is included in all our policies at no extra cost.

Special Occasion Licenses (Nonprofits Selling Alcohol)
If a nonprofit wants to SELL alcohol at an event, it needs a Special Occasion License ($60 per day, per location), not a banquet permit. Applications must be submitted to the WSLCB at least 45 days before the event. Only bona fide nonprofit organizations qualify.

MAST Server Training
Washington’s Mandatory Alcohol Server Training (MAST) permit is not legally required for banquet-permit events, but it’s highly recommended, and many Washington venues require servers and bartenders to hold a MAST permit as a condition of rental. Licensed caterers serving alcohol offsite must have MAST-certified staff.

City of Seattle Endorsement Forms
